Highliner Lodge & Charters, Inc. Review - Pelican, Alaska

Arriving in Pelican, Alaska after a gorgeous 45 minute flight on a 6-seater floatplane is like entering a whole new world.  Snow-capped mountains on every side tower 4,000 feet above you, rising directly from the protected ocean waters.  A hush falls over your ears as the propeller comes to a slow stop and the only sound is the raging waterfalls that can be heard and seen a mile away across the water.  The owners of the charter fishing lodge meet you as you step off the float plane escorting you and your luggage to the lodge, a short stroll from the floatplane dock.

Contrasting wildly with the old-time town where every home sits on wooden piles 16 feet above the ocean and walking is the only method of travel, the dual 200 Horsepower engines on the Highliner Lodge’s newest charter boat, aptly named the “Highliner”, roar into life and carry you to one of the richest fishing grounds in Alaska.  The fishing is so good, North America’s last remaining fleet of commercial trollers fish nearby, hand-catching wild Alaskan salmon, one by one.  The fishing boats at the Highliner Lodge are well-equipped and always ready for your fishing pleasure.  The fishing rods and tackle are state of the art and kept in perfect condition so you don’t miss out on any fishing when you’re on the ocean.

Your catch is paramount to the experience here.   Professionally handled, the fish are quickly vacuum-packed and flash-frozen in the cavernous walk-in deep freeze to ensure the absolute best tasting fish you and your friends have ever had.  In fact, the only thing better than your own catch – is the luxurious meals served at the Highliner Lodge.  These six-course, lavishly-appointed, but down to earth delights will be the highlight of your evenings.  Each course is served to you in front of the large picture windows overlooking the harbor, ocean, and mountains across the Inlet.

With a local hot-spring just a stones throw from the Pacific Ocean, stunning coastal scenery, world-famous salmon and halibut fishing, hiking, whale-watching, kayaking, and much more, all available at the Highliner Lodge, you can’t help but have the trip of a lifetime.
